WELCOME TO MSGR. McCLANCY MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL, HOME OF THE CRUSADERS!
Msgr. McClancy Memorial High School is a Catholic school built in 1956 and is conducted by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. It is centrally located between Northern Boulevard and the Grand Central Parkway. It also is easily accessible by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Many students commute by mass transit whether by bus or train. There are buses that run from the train station to the corner of the school. Very convenient!
This past year the Brothers of the Sacred Heart celebrated their 163rd anniversary being on the continent of North America. In addition, they celebrated their 189th anniversary in existence. They were founded by Father Andre Coindre in France shortly after the French Revolution. The Brothers landed in Mobile, Alabama, and started their schools in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and into Canada. These schools are still thriving and making a difference in many young peoples’ lives.
Msgr. McClancy Memorial High School has a warm and friendly atmosphere. This special quality stems from our small school environment of approximately 500 to 600 students and the qualified faculty. Our faculty consists of Brothers of the Sacred Heart, lay men and women. Their tireless effort is easily seen by their availability to the students. It is a place where everyone is treated with respect.
There is a faculty of 45 very qualified professionals. There are 3 teachers with their Ph.D. degrees, 22 teachers with their M.A. and 10 teachers who are candidates for their M.A. Presently, there are 12 members of the faculty who are alumni, demonstrating the family atmosphere.
Msgr. McClancy Memorial High School has gone through a number of changes to address the needs of the future. The school recently became a co-educational institution. This new co-educational environment proved to be a needed change for the school and its neighboring communities.
The past few years, the school has drastically renovated the interior of the building through a Noise Abatement Project and a Capital Campaign. These major renovations give the school the look of a new building. We now have a soundproof building with new windows, air conditioned instructional areas with interactive boards and ceiling projectors in every classroom. New lighting has been installed in every room of the building. New ceilings have been installed in all of the hallways. We installed a new gym floor, gym bleachers, new weightlifting machines, softball field and school sign in front of the school. Major renovations have been made in the locker rooms, outdoor track, media center, art studio and faculty room. These changes cost approximately $10,000,000, all for the benefit of our students’ education and to prepare them for the future.
The students are very successful; 100% of the senior students graduate and 100% go on to college/universities. The students can graduate with close to 36 college credits. These courses include Calculus, Composition, and Rhetoric, Business Law, English Literature, Advanced Biology, Painting and Sculpture, and Three Dimensional Design. There is also a full complement of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The building is fully Internet accessible through Wi-Fi.
Our students have gone on to study at the following colleges/universities: Adelphi University, Amherst College, Columbia University, CUNY Honors College, Boston College, Boston University, Brown University, Bucknell University, Cornell University, Florida State University, Harvard University, Hofstra University, Georgetown University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Notre Dame University, N.Y.U., Penn State University, Providence College, Sophie Davis Medical School, St. Francis College, St. John’s University, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Stony Brook, Syracuse University, University of Florida, University of Massachusetts, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina, University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, U.S. Naval Academy, Villanova University, West Point Military Academy, etc.
