Mandatory Service Hours
Graduation Requirement: (Class of 2015...)
As a Catholic high school, Msgr. McClancy Memorial High School challenges its students to live the Gospel of Jesus in the spirit of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart by sharing their gifts and talents with others. To achieve this end, we are instituting mandatory service hours for our students.
Starting with the incoming freshman, Class of 2015, and every grade level afterwards, students will be required to provide service hours to their parish, local community and/or school. This will be a graduation requirement for Msgr. McClancy Memorial High School students. The number of service hours will be increased incrementally as the students mature throughout their years in the school. The number of required hours are as follows:
- Minimum mandatory hours
Freshman Year 10 hours
Sophomore Year 15 hours
Junior Year 20 hours
Senior Year 25 hours
Total: 70 hours
The service hours for a student must be verified by the organization which is being served. A confirmation letter must be submitted in a timely fashion stating the date, the service provided, the amount of hours served and the signature of the official representative of the organization. In September, the Campus Ministry Office will provide further details and clarify the information regarding service hours in your local neighborhood and within the school community. The number of student hours served will be recorded by the members of the Campus Ministry Program and the Religion Department.
Presently, the upperclassmen are already involved in voluntary service and we continue to encourage our students to take part in helping others through the Campus Ministry Program. We have experienced a great deal of improvement as a school by our students demonstrating compassion and responsibility toward others in the greater community. This improvement is reflected by 46% of our student body who voluntarily serve others out of the goodness of their hearts.
If a man serves me, he must follow me,
wherever I am, my servant will be there too.
If anyone serves me, my Father will honor him.
